Job Description

LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. The Department of Bioengineering (BioE) within the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering & Applied Science at Lehigh University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position. This open rank faculty position is pivotal to growing our core departmental strength in micro- and nanoscale bioengineering. We seek intellectual leaders whose research drives high-impact advancements in cellular and molecular engineering for regenerative medicine, therapeutics, or disease modeling. Areas of interest within cellular and molecular engineering include synthetic biology, genetic engineering, computational tools, and active biomaterials. Researchers who are using cellular and molecular engineering to gain a better fundamental understanding of cell signaling or mechanobiology are also welcome to apply. The new hire will build upon Lehigh Bioengineering’s existing strengths, such as organoids, organ-on-chip systems, biofabrication, and computational models, while establishing an innovative, interdisciplinary research program focused on emerging frontiers like synthetic cells and genetic circuits, and machine learning–driven biological analysis and discovery. Strategically aligned with Lehigh’s institutional priorities in Health, Research Expansion, and AI, this role offers exceptional opportunities for collaboration with the region’s thriving pharmaceutical industry.

The individual hired will be expected to:

●       teach courses at all levels of the BioE curriculum,

●       participate in departmental, college, and university service,

●       lead a high impact research program and pursue external funding to support research activities and PhD students, and

●       contribute to an academic environment in which all students, faculty, and staff can thrive to their fullest potential.

The research areas in Lehigh’s Bioengineering Department (https://engineering.lehigh.edu/bioe) span key areas such as biocomputation and modeling, diagnostics, sensors and devices, and materials and therapies. The outcomes of our faculty-led efforts are contributing to advances in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, the development of platforms for the early detection of disease and precision diagnostics, and the design of novel biological pharmaceuticals and nanomedicine, biosensors, and medical devices. Among the faculty of the department are fellows of professional societies as well as award-winning professors, including NSF CAREER award winners. The department consists of a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty, and places a strong emphasis on inclusion and belonging in teaching and scholarship.

Founded in 1865, Lehigh University has combined outstanding academic and learning opportunities with leadership in fostering innovative research.
