LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. The Department of Music invites applications for a non-tenure-track position as the Robert Cutler Endowed Teaching Professor in Choral Arts, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. This position is a renewable, fixed-term, non-tenure-track, full-time position. The initial term of appointment is 3 years.
The Associate Director of Choral Activities will teach the equivalent of 3 courses per semester of choral ensembles, musicianship, ear training, and/or other music courses at the undergraduate level as needed. They will also oversee the administration of voice lessons within the music department. Conducting responsibilities are distributed as determined by the Director of Choral Activities according to the strengths of the Associate Director and needs of the choral area. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a collaborative spirit, excellent musicianship, effective conducting and rehearsal technique, and a deep understanding of vocal pedagogy.
In close collaboration with the Director of Choral Activities, the Associate Director will contribute to the success of an established choral program through performances, recruitment, and administrative duties. They will conduct ensembles and teach singers and students who have a wide range of experience. The Associate Director of Choral Activities will participate in departmental, college, and university service, is expected to work with students towards capstone preparation, and fulfill other service duties such as advising, recruitment and committee work in the department as well as the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to Lehigh’s Principles of Our Equitable Community.
Qualifications
Candidates must have earned a M.M. or D.M.A./Ph.D. in choral conducting or a closely related field by the date of employment. The successful candidate must have demonstrated conducting and classroom teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
