Job Description

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures (MLL) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chinese, effective July 2025. Primary area of specialization should be premodern (pre-1900) Chinese literary and cultural studies.  

All requirements for the Ph.D. in Chinese or directly related field must be earned by employment date. The candidate should have at least one year of teaching experience in US institutions at the college level, which can include graduate teaching fellowships. Native or near-native proficiency in Chinese is required. 

The successful candidate will join a faculty in the MLL department that has a strong commitment to research and teaching. The successful candidate will contribute significant scholarship to their field and teach a wide range of language, literature, and culture courses to undergraduates. Teaching load is two courses per semester. Faculty members in our department participate in interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian and Asian American Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Global Studies, and Health, Medicine and Society, among others.
