Job Description

The Lehigh University College of Health invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Ellen and Vincent Forlenza ’75 Chair in Health Innovation and Technology.  The Forlenza endowed faculty chair was created to leverage Lehigh's traditional strengths in technology in the service of health. The holder of the Forlenza Chair will have a distinguished record in driving innovation in assistive or rehabilitative technologies that improve the community success, wellbeing, equity, and independence of people of all ages with disabilities as defined by The International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health: mobility/physical, SCI (spinal cord), TBI (head or traumatic brain injury), vision, hearing, cognitive/learning, psychological, and invisible.

The Forlenza Chair is a key position in the Disability Independence strategic research cluster in the College of Health. The faculty member in this position will have demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary research teams to develop assistive and rehabilitative technologies, and possess the leadership qualities and vision necessary to build the Disability Independence interdisciplinary research cluster. The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at the rank of Full Professor, although especially accomplished Associate Professors who qualify for tenure may be considered. If desired, formal affiliation with one of the local or regional health systems with whom the College of Health partners is available: Good Shepherd Rehabilitation, Geisinger Health, Lehigh Valley Health Network, and St. Luke’s University Health Network. 

The College of Health is Lehigh University’s first new college in decades. Investments in the college to date include faculty lines, state-of the-art space, staffing, and incorporation into Lehigh’s reputation and brand. The holder of the Forlenza Chair will have the opportunity to shape future investments in the college, including additional faculty lines, curricular offerings, degree programs, and partnerships. “With this Chair, we’re hoping to find a leader who is a thoughtful risk-taker and a great facilitator of academic-industry partnerships,” Vincent Forlenza said. “At the end of the day, it’s going to be someone who has a real passion for using technology to improve the independence and well-being of people with disabilities.”
