The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering & Applied Science at Lehigh University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) (www.lehigh.edu/~incee/). We seek an accomplished scholar and educator with vision and leadership skills to engage a department of outstanding faculty, students, and staff in shaping a productive, collegial environment, and to build upon nationally recognized strengths in research, graduate and undergraduate education, and collaboration with industry.
Lehigh’s CEE Department is consistently ranked among the top 25 nationally. The department has 20 full-time faculty members, and approximately 80 graduate students and 150 undergraduate students. Civil Engineering was one of five schools of instruction in Lehigh University’s original curriculum in 1865. The department currently awards B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and in Environmental Engineering; and M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering, in Environmental Engineering, and in Structural Engineering.
CEE faculty have developed nationally recognized research programs in Structures and Infrastructure Systems, Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering, and Water Resources. Department annual research expenditures are approximately $8 million. CEE faculty have access to excellent research facilities, including the internationally renowned Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Engineering Research Center (www.atlss.lehigh.edu); the National Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Lehigh Experimental Facility (https://lehigh.designsafe-ci.org/facility/overview/); the historic Fritz Engineering Laboratory, and the Science, Technology, Environment and Policy Studies (STEPS) research facility housing Lehigh’s environmental engineering and environmental science research laboratories (www.lehigh.edu/steps/). Lehigh recently launched (April 2018) three new Interdisciplinary Research Institutes (IRIs) to create exceptional new opportunities for multi-disciplinary team research: the Institute for Cyber Physical Infrastructure and Energy (https://icpie.lehigh.edu/); the Institute for Data, Intelligent Systems, and Computation (https://idisc.lehigh.edu/); and the Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (https://ifmd.lehigh.edu/). Each of these IRIs has approximately 80 faculty members from departments and colleges across Lehigh's campus, working to create and support successful team research within a broad range of research thrusts.
