Job Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University invites qualified individuals to apply for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the area of Energy Conversion & Storage. The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline by the date of hire. 

Applications are encouraged from outstanding candidates working in any aspect of thermal energy storage with emphasis at the intersection between renewable energy conversion systems (including hydrogen) and bulk thermal energy storage (including modeling; new material/processes; fabrication and evaluation of innovative storage concepts/devices; and system integration, optimization, and demonstration). The successful candidate will be expected to build on Lehigh's existing strengths in thermal energy storage and contribute to improving university energy and decarbonization research planning decisions. 

Multidisciplinary research programs are an important priority at Lehigh University, and include strong interactions with government agencies, industry, and existing interdisciplinary research institutes (IRIs) on campus. The ideal candidate’s research area will be synergistic with research thrusts in the Lehigh Institute for Cyber-Physical Infrastructure and Energy (I-CPIE). The successful candidate will be affiliated with I-CPIE and may also engage with the Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (I-FMD), Energy Research Center, and/or U.S. Department of Energy Atlantic Marine Energy Center. The candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous research program consistent with Lehigh’s reputation as a prominent research and educational institution, and to maintain a strong commitment to teaching. The candidate will be expected to effectively teach graduate and undergraduate courses to a diverse group of engineering students. The successful candidate will create opportunities for broadening participation and support an inclusive and equitable educational environment in which a diverse student body can thrive.
