Job Description

Applications are invited for a full-time, non-tenure track administrative/teaching faculty position (Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Chair) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Lehigh University (https://materials.lehigh.edu/). As Associate Chair, the successful candidate will support the work and role of the Department Chair as it pertains to undergraduate teaching, recruiting, and advising. In addition, the Associate Chair undertakes a leadership role in ABET accreditation efforts and coordination of the undergraduate curriculum. The successful candidate will also teach core and elective courses in the MSE Department. The anticipated start date is no later than August 2024; an earlier start date may be possible. 

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field by the date of hire. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience (i.e., 1-3 years minimum) in teaching and/or administration to meet the teaching, recruiting and administrative needs in the MSE program, in addition to supporting student design teams in the interdisciplinary capstone design program. Prior teaching experience can include teaching fellowships, teaching assistant (TA) work, tutoring and project supervision, whereas administrative experience may include relevant academic committee, recruiting or professional organization work.  The successful candidate is expected to be a dynamic educator and administrator with a commitment to advancing the future of the MSE Department. The successful candidate must also be committed to the enhancement of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in which world-class faculty, staff, and students can thrive to their full potential. The MSE Faculty maintain outstanding international reputations in a variety of research areas, including metallurgy, ceramics, polymers, biomaterials, and electronic materials. The Department currently has 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and one Professor of Practice. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering.
